This shot (one of a series) was taken from the rowboat carrying Clara Dennis over to Chapel Island for the St. Anne's Day celebrations, during the week of 26 July 1930.

"Scores and scores of boats and canoes are drawn up on the island or moored along the shore. Scores and scores of wigwams, some of birch bark, others covered with black tarpaper are pitched all around. Flags on tall flagpoles float in the breeze. The chapel is in the midst. It is the fifth chapel, I learned, that has been erected since the first early chapel was built long ago in the days of the French....Chapel or Indian Island, as it is often called, was once known as Ile de Famille, or Isle of the Holy Family, having been so named by Abbé Maillard."
