IMAGE INFORMATION

This photograph was taken by a member of the crew of H.M.S. Challenger, a British research vessel which visited Halifax in 1873. Note the spruce-bark cover on the wigwam, in place of the more usual birchbark. This is a posed photo; the bow hadn't been used, except as a children's toy and a souvenir, for centuries.
