IMAGE INFORMATION

L-R front: Margaret Labrador Charles, Fannie Pictou, John Charles and his second wife Mahalia Charles; L-R back: Will Carty, Rachael Pictou, Clara Pictou. One little girl in the back row is not identified, but there is no telling which one she is. John Charles was the father of Joe Charles and the grandfather of Elsie Charles Basque. After his first wife died, he began to lose his eyesight, and married a second time to a woman named Mahalia (her maiden name is unknown). Margaret Labrador Charles was married to John Charles's son Joe, and was the mother of Elsie Charles Basque. [Elsie Charles Basque to R.H. Whitehead, personal communication, 20 August 1997.] Harry Piers of the Nova Scotia Museum made a note about Will Carty:

"Will Carthy was a good hunter as well. He was found drowned in Great Lake, Pubnico, the same day as [Abraham] Toney was found dead." [Jeremiah Bartlett Alexis, alias Jerry Lonecloud, to Harry Piers, 29 April 1921. Nova Scotia Museum Printed Matter File.]
