Description
This is to advise that on May 16, 2019, Colchester Containers Limited registered the Asbestos Waste Disposal Cell Project for environmental assessment, in accordance with Part IV of the Environment Act.
The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to construct and operate the Asbestos Waste Disposal Cell to support the current C&D waste management site on Highway 289 in Middle Stewiacke. The Proponent has held an NSE Approval to construct, operate and reclaim a C&D Facility since 1997. The Proponent proposes to continue C&D operations at the site and expand to include a second containment cell for a Facility which may accept the disposal of asbestos waste. The Project will occupy 1.8 hectares, with an expected operational life of 20 years. The Project will provide a local asbestos waste disposal option for Truro and surrounding areas and construction is anticipated to commence in the summer of 2019.
Minister's Decision
On July 5, 2019 the Minister of Environment released a decisionconcerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking in accordance with Section 18(a) of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act. The undertaking has been approved subject to a number of conditions.
