Spicer North Mountain Quarry Expansion Project

Description

This is to advise that on March 9, 2020, B. Spicer Construction Ltd. registered the Spicer North Mountain Quarry Expansion Project for environmental assessment, in accordance with Part IV of the Environment Act.

The purpose of the proposed undertaking is for the continued operation and expansion of the existing quarry located at 7297 Highway 1, Upper Granville, Annapolis County. The project encompasses the expansion of the existing 4 ha quarry over a 30-year period to an additional area of 7.04 ha plus associated 2.5 ha expansion of the stockpile/crusher area. The annual aggregate production rate, which supplies local infrastructure projects, is anticipated to remain unchanged at the current rate of 100,000 to 150,000 metric tonnes/year and associated activities are expected to remain consistent with the current quarry operations.

Minister's Decision

On April 28, 2020, the Minister of Environment released a decision concerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking in accordance with Section 13(1)b of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act. The undertaking has been approved subject to a number of conditions.
