Duncan Gillis Quarry Extension Project

Description

This is to advise that on July 26, 2010, Gillis Construction Cape Breton Limited registered the proposed Duncan Gillis Quarry Extension Project, Victoria County for environmental assessment, in accordance with Part IV of the Environment Act.

The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to extend the quarry site to allow for continued aggregate production and to supply quartzite to local gravel markets and highway construction projects. Proposed quarry activities (i.e. production levels, blasting and truck traffic) will be consistent with current quarry operations.

Minister's Decision

On September 14, 2010 the Minister of Environment released a decisionPDF Download Link (PDF:110k) concerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking in accordance with Section 13(1)b of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act.
