Description
This is to advise that on August 18, 2011, ScoZinc Limited registered a Southwest Expansion Project for environmental assessment, in accordance with Part IV of the Environment Act.
The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to mine and process additional lead/zinc ore located immediately adjacent to the existing Gays River Mine. The currently permitted pit area is proposed to be expanded in a southwest direction to complete mining and reclamation of this area.
Project Update
The Minister has authorized an extension for the commencement of work effective September 4, 2024, and expiring September 9, 2026. The Approval Holder must, on or before September 9, 2026, commence work on the Undertaking unless granted a written extension by the Minister.
Ministers Decision
On October 7, 2011 the Minister of Environment released a decision (PDF:135k) concerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking in accordance with Section 13(1)b of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act. The undertaking has been approved subject to a number of conditions
