Description
This is to advise that on January 29, 2025, Will-Kare Paving & Contracting Limited registered the Mccallum Settlement Quarry Expansion for environmental assessment, in accordance with Part IV of the Environment Act.
Will-Kare operates an existing <4 ha aggregate quarry under NSECC Industrial Approval #2020-2766645-00. The quarry is located off Truro Road within PID 20099164 in McCallum Settlement, Colchester County, Nova Scotia (NS). The McCallum Settlement Quarry has been an NSECC approved quarry since 2021 and serves as a local source of construction aggregate for projects primarily based in Colchester and Cumberland Counties. Will-Kare is proposing to expand the existing quarry operating footprint to ensure continued aggregate production over the next 40 years. The proposed expansion project will increase the quarry footprint to approximately 25 ha, and be contained within existing PID 20099164. Activities will be similar to current operations and the anticipated production will remain at approximately 10,000 tonnes annually. Will-Kare intends to begin construction in 2025.
Minister's Decision
On March 20, 2025, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change released a decision concerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking in accordance with Section 13(1)b of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act. The undertaking has been approved subject to a number of conditions.
