Description
This is to advise that on 29 October 2025, Nova Sustainable Fuels Ltd registered the Nova Sustainable Fuels Renewable Energy Park Project, Guysborough County for environmental assessment, in accordance with Part IV of the Environment Act.
The purpose of the proposed undertaking is to construct and operate a renewable energy park for the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for export centred on PID 35094770 near Goldboro, Guysborough County. The renewable energy park consists of the SAF production facility, freshwater pipelines and supporting infrastructure, and will utilize biomass and renewable energy to produce SAF, a drop-in alternative to conventional aviation fuel, green methanol and other low-carbon co-products. The renewable energy project and transmission line will be assessed under another environmental assessment. The Project intends to commence construction in 2028 and is expected to be operational for a minimum of 50 years once operational.
Minister's Decision
On 18 December 2025, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change released a decision (PDF) concerning this review. The Minister has decided to approve the undertaking in accordance with Section 13(1)(b) of the Environmental Assessment Regulations, pursuant to Part IV of the Environment Act. The undertaking has been approved subject to a number of conditions (PDF).
