Bowers Meadows Wilderness Area

painting by Alice ReedBowers Meadows Wilderness Area protects terrestrial (inland) ecosystems and elements of the Shelburne Headlands Natural Landscape in Shelburne County.

The Wilderness Area features a large fen- and bog-dominated wetland complex that has developed in a post glacial landscape that includes glacial outwash deposits and low sinuous esker ridges. The wetland complex is drained by the Round Bay River, which forms a meandering stillwater for much of its course.

Fishing, hunting, wilderness canoeing, hiking and camping are traditional pursuits ideally suited to this special place.
