Nuisance Wildlife Operator Licence

Who Needs This Licence?
Anyone who wants to engage in a business (that is, someone who wants to charge a fee) to trap, kill, frighten away, discourage or keep nuisance wildlife off the premises in Nova Scotia requires this licence.

Note: This does not apply to people dealing with mice, rats, voles or shrews.

Application Forms & Process:
Application can be made at the nearest Local or Area Offices of the N.S. Department of Natural Resources.

The applicant must undergo a test and interview to demonstrate competency and knowledge, and must have a Fur Harvester's Licence or a.Fur Harvester Certification

If all requirements are met and the application is approved, the licence will be sent to the applicant by mail.

Waiting Period:
1 week

Expiry & Renewal:
This licence is valid for up to 1 year, expiring on March 31st. It can be renewed, and the renewal time starts the middle of February. The renewal process is started by the licence holder before it expires.

Initial Application and Annual Renewal:  $6.83 plus HST

  1. A valid Wildlife Resources Card, N.S. Department of Natural Resources,

  2. Fur Harvester's Licence or Course, N.S. Department of Natural Resources;

  3. Rifle Transport Permit, N.S. Department of Natural Resources;

  4. Nuisance Wildlife Permit, N.S. Department of Natural Resources.
Additional Information:
  1. The licence holder's must maintain an operator's log report and provide a copy to the N.S. Department of Natural Resources annually.

  2. A Licensed operator may act as an agent for the owner / occupant of the land to obtain a Nuisance Wildlife Permit to enable a protected species to be trapped or killed.
