Boilers and Pressure Vessels: Equipment Licence

 
Who Needs This Equipment Licence?
In Nova Scotia all boilers and pressure vessels must be installed and inspected at regular intervals as prescribed by the Chief Inspector. In addition, all repairs to boilers, pressure vessels, high pressure piping systems and refrigeration plants, need to be inspected.

Application Forms & Process:
An installation or inspection request is made to Labour and Advanced Education. If all requirements are met and the request is approved (subject to inspection), the licence will be sent to the applicant by mail.
Waiting Period:
5 to 10 business days
Provided that all the items that must accompany the application have been received.
Expiry & Renewal:
Re-inspection by the Province of Nova Scotia is required on a regular basis as per expiry date.

Sliding Scale, dependent upon the size and type of unit

Additional Information:

Anyone intending to have a boiler or pressure vessel installed should refer to the Boilers and Pressure Vessels section.

For exemptions contact Labour and Advanced Education or refer to the Act and Regulations for the applicable limitations, definitions, etc.

BPE Permit is required for new installation.

As per applicable American Society of Mechanical Engineers Codes and Standards as well as related CSA Standards.
