Accessible Parking Identification Permits

Who Needs This Permit / Plate? |
|
Anyone who wants to park in Accessible Parking Zones in Nova Scotia. |
|
1) A Permit can be carried in any vehicle in which the
disabled individual is travelling, and can be moved from one vehicle to
another.
|
|
2) Plates [licence plates] must be attached to a specific vehicle, and can only be issued to the person who is named as owner on the Vehicle Permit. Upon successful application for a passenger/light commercial vehicle, you will be issued 2 plates, both of which must be attached to the vehicle; one at the front, and one at the rear. Upon successful application for a motorcycle, you will be issued 1 plate, which must be attached to the rear of the vehicle. |

Application
Forms & Process: |
|
1) The Permit can be issued for anyone of any age. It
can be carried in any vehicle in which the disabled individual is travelling,
and can be moved from one vehicle to another.
2) The Plates must be attached to a specific vehicle, and
can only be issued to the person who is named on the Vehicle Permit. [The
plates already issued with that permit can be exchanged for the Accessible
Parking Zone plates.]
You can get an application for an Accessible Parking Zone: permit, plates or Application for Accessible Parking Motorcycle Plate at any of the offices listed above, or any Regional
Office of the Registry of Motor Vehicles, or by mail. You can also
download a form from our website.
The application must be completed, signed by the applicant and/or guardian
and also by the applicant's physician, and returned. For

Requirements, please visit the Registry of Motor Vehicles website.
Note: Effective January 1, 2004, any time plates
are being issued or renewed (exception: exchange of existing plates for
Accessible Parking Zone plates), insurance information is required. A
Statement of Insurance
form must be completed.
If all requirements are met and the application is approved, the permit or passenger/light commercial plates can be picked up at the counter, or mailed to the applicant. Motorcycle plate will be mailed.

Expiry & Renewal: |
|
Passenger/light commercial plates are valid for 2 years, motorcycle plate is valid for 1 year; the permit is valid for 5 years. They are renewable. The Department will send out a renewal notice before they expire.
A temporary parking permit is valid for up to 6 months from
its date of issue. |

1) Companies carrying disabled persons
may be allowed to obtain a Accessible Parking Zone permit or plates by submitting
a letter on company letter head as to why the permit is needed. |

2) When you see the term "Master
Number" or "Client Master Number" on an application
form, it refers to the number on your Driver's Licence under the heading
"Master". This 14-digit number is made up of (a) the first
5 letters of your last name [if your last name has fewer than 5 letters,
the difference is made up with spaces]; (b) plus the day / month / year
of your birth; (c) plus 3 computer-assigned numbers.
For example: FINCH--220867001 [5 letters (Finch) + 22 (for
22nd) + 08 (for August, 8th month of the year) + 67 (for 1967) + 001 (3
computer-assigned numbers) ]
For master numbers assigned to a group of individuals (joint ownership),
the last 9 digits are computer-assigned.
