Prospector Registration

Who Needs This Prospector Registration?

Anyone who wants to register in Nova Scotia as a prospector.

A Prospector Registration enables the holder thereof the right to prospect in a preliminary way on ground open for prospecting, provided they have the landowner's permission.

The work is restricted to non-disturbance prospecting:

  1. outcrop and float examination;
  2. line flagging;
  3. geological and topographical mapping rock;
  4. water and overburden sampling; and
  5. geophysical surveys.
Mineral Exploration: Licence, at a minimum, is required if any surface disruption is contemplated.

Expiry & Renewal:
The Prospector Registration is valid for 10 years and can be renewed at no additional cost.

Related Requirements:
  1. A prospector must have access to a copy of the Mineral Resources Act.
  2. A prospector must have the permission of the landowner before entering land for any purpose.
  3. Mineral Exploration: Licence and other approvals are required if any surface disruption is contemplated.
  4. All work conducted pursuant to this Registration must be done in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Environment Act, and all other pertinent legislation.
Additional Information:
  1. This Prospector Registration is restricted to non-ground disturbance type of activity.
  2. The work must be conducted on unlicensed, open ground.
