Who Needs This Licence?
	Anyone in Nova Scotia who wants to keep, rear and sell elk, red deer, sika or fallow deer for food production. Note: This licence covers only four deer species: elk, red deer, sika deer and fallow deer.

Application Forms & Process:
	An application form can be obtained from the address above, Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture. Issuance depends upon approval of facilities, which can be dependent on weather conditions which can affect the ability of the Senior Meat Inspector to walk the perimeter of the farm inspecting fences, etc. Copies of Inventory are requested annually along with Removal Reports and license renewal fees. If all requirements are met and the application is approved, the licence will be sent to the applicant by mail.
Waiting Period:
	10 business days provided that all the items that must accompany the application have been received
Expiry & Renewal:
	This licence is valid for a given calendar year. It is renewable and the renewal time is January 1. The Department will send a renewal form to the licence holder and inventory is as of December 15th of the previous year.
Price: (HST is charged)
	Initial Application: $131.26 plus HST Annual Renewal Fee: $13.70 plus HST Please pay by cheque or money order made out to the Minister of Finance.
Related Requirements:
	Facilities and premises must be approved by staff of the Department prior to licence being issued.
Additional Information:
	Farms must have proper fencing and handling facilities before a deer farming licence is issued. Licensed deer farms must keep an accurate inventory of all livestock on the farm. Copies of inventory are requested by Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture. Licensed deer farms must follow the health protocol for sale and purchase of deer and farmed deer products. Farmers are responsible for proper maintenance of their handling facilities and fencing.
