Honey Bees Import Permit

Who Needs This Permit?
Anyone who wants to import honey bees (bee queens, genetic material or packages) and/or used beekeeping equipment into Nova Scotia from another province or country.

Note: This registration is required even if a federal permit has already been granted.

Application Process:
A request for this permit is made by phone, email or in person to the Provincial Apiculturist, Department of Agriculture. The Provincial Apiculturist prepares the permit including protocol and if all is in order it is then signed by the Senior Program Administrator, Pest and Regulations and forwarded by the Provincial Apiculturist to the applicant by mail.
Waiting Period:
5 business days
provided that all the items that must accompany the application have been received
Expiry:
This permit is valid only for the time period specified on it.  Once it expires, it is invalid, and you have to get a new one.

Related Requirements:
Except in special cases, the applicant must be a registered beekeeper in Nova Scotia.
