Shared Strategy for Trails in Nova Scotia

Trails provide social, recreational, cultural and health benefits – they connect communities, let us explore nature and culture, and support healthy, active lifestyles. The Trails Strategy will shape sustainable trail development and help us build a healthier and better-connected province.

Nova Scotia has a community-based approach to trails. The Trails Strategy will improve the planning, development and maintenance of the provincial trails system. It lays out a plan for an improved trail system that appeals to trail users, visitors and community groups.

The strategy reflects the shared vision and actions of the trails community, led by the Nova Scotia Trails Federation, businesses, landowners, Mi’kmaq communities and different levels of government.

Together, we’re working toward 4 shared goals:

  • strengthening alignment, leadership and collaboration trail development
  • expanding supports for trail development and management
  • improving planning for trails
  • increasing trail use
