PUBLIC AWARENESS
Treaty Education creates an opportunity for every Nova Scotian to learn about our shared history in the province and Canada. We are all Treaty people and our relationship is based on peace and friendship.
A variety of programs are designed to raise public awareness, including the development of a web site, annual celebration of Treaty Day and Mi’kmaq History Month and the launch of a web site and digitization of the records from the Royal Commission on the Donald Marshall Jr. Prosecution.
The Ke’aknutma’tinej? Can we Talk? video was screened during previews in Cineplex theatres in 2019, reaching 190,000 people.
The Mi’kmaq Speakers’ Bureau has about 20 presenters trained and available to speak on Mi’kmaq history and culture, Treaties and the treaty relationship, and reconciliation.
This work continues.
