EU AND EURO AREA UNEMPLOYMENT RATE, DECEMBER 2023

Eurostat has reported that the unemployment rate in the Euro Area has remained unchanged at 6.4% in December 2023. For the broader 27 countries of the entire European Union, the unemployment rate also remained unchanged at 5.9% in December 2023.

In December, youth unemployment rates edged up to 14.7% in the European Union and edged down to 14.4% in the Euro Area. Unemployment rate for females in the European Union was 6.2% while the male unemployment rate was 5.7%. Euro Area unemployment rate for females was 6.8% in December 2023 while the Euro Area unemployment rate for males was 6.1%. 

Among EU member state economies, the December unemployment rate was highest in Spain. Unemployment rates were lowest in Malta, Poland, and Czechia.
