LABOUR FORCE SURVEY, FEBRUARY 2024

                                                                           

MONTH OVER MONTH (February 2024 vs January 2024, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 1,200 (+0.2%) to 551,100
  • Employment increased 6,300 (+1.2%) to 517,900
  • Unemployment decreased 5,100 (-13.3%) to 33,200
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 1.0 percentage points to 6.0%


In Canada

  • Labour force increased 76,400 (+0.4%) to 21,663,300
  • Employment increased 40,700 (+0.2%) to 20,402,900
  • Unemployment increased 35,800 (+2.9%) to 1,260,400
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.1 percentage points to 5.8%


In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 2,800 (+1.0%) to 289,900
  • Employment increased 3,300 (+1.2%) to 275,500
  • Unemployment decreased 500 (-3.4%) to 14,400
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.2 percentage points to 5.0%

 

YEAR OVER YEAR (February 2024 vs February 2023)


In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 24,200 (+4.6%)
  • Employment increased 21,600 (+4.4%)
  • Unemployment increased 2,600 (+8.5%)
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.2 percentage points

In Canada

  • Labour force increased 553,600 (+2.6%)
  • Employment increased 368,000 (+1.8%)
  • Unemployment increased 185,600 (+17.3%)
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.7 percentage points


In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 15,400 (+5.6%)
  • Employment increased 14,100 (+5.4%)
  • Unemployment increased 1,300 (+9.9%)
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.2 percentage points
