Ministerial Changes Announced

Premier Darrell Dexter announced ministerial changes that will help government continue to fulfill its commitment to make life better for Nova Scotia families while getting back to balance.

Quick Facts

• Maureen MacDonald will become Nova Scotia's first woman Finance Minister.
• She will also be responsible for the Securities Act, the Credit Union Act, the Utility and Review Board Act, the Liquor Control Act and the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation.
• She will chair the Economic Investment Committee, become a member of Treasury Board, and remain a member of Policy and Priorities.
• Dave Wilson is the new Minister of Health and Wellness and Acadian Affairs.
• Graham Steele and Bill Estabrooks have informed the premier that they will not re-offer in the next provincial election. They will step down from their ministerial positions immediately to ensure a seamless transition.
• Premier Dexter also announced that Leonard Preyra and Maurice Smith will join cabinet.
• Mr. Preyra will become the Minister of Communities, Culture and Heritage, focusing on preserving and promoting Nova Scotia's rich and diverse heritage and culture. He is also responsible for part 1 of the Gaming Control Act and will keep his seat on Treasury Board.
• Mr. Smith will become the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. He is also the new Minister of Gaelic Affairs, and the Minister responsible for the Sydney Tar Ponds Agency, the Sydney Steel Corporation Act, the Insurance Act, and the Nova Scotia Police Review Board. He will sit on the Policy and Priorities Committee.
• Changes to Executive Council are effective immediately.
