Renewals require an operator to obtain ongoing education. The unit of measurement for training is the continuing education unit (CEU). One CEU means 10 hours of participation, or contact time, in a continuing education program that is relevant to the operation of a water and wastewater facility. Contact time refers to time spent training and does not include breaks, lunches, introductions, or testing. The training shall be performed under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction.

To provide clarification to operators on what training is applicable and to what certificate category it is eligible for NSE now requires that courses be pre-approved by our department.

Training providers are required to submit a completed approval form. If the necessary information has been provided, the course will be approved as formal training for the purpose of certificate renewal and added to the pre-approved list.
