Share your feedback on automobile insurance to help make sure that appropriate, affordable and stable coverage is available in Nova Scotia.

About the engagement

In Nova Scotia, automobile insurance is regulated by the Office of the Superintendent of Insurance. The office helps make sure that people have access to appropriate, affordable and stable coverage and that victims of automobile accidents can access fair compensation.

The Office of the Superintendent of Insurance has identified changes that could help stabilize insurance costs and improve insurance offerings. Possible changes include:

  • updating the definition of ‘minor injury’
  • reducing the cap on cash awards for pain and suffering on minor injuries
  • enhancing coverage to help individuals who sustain injuries
  • making the automobile insurance policy the first priority payor
