International Adoption

Some families may wish to adopt a child internationally. For relative adoptions, the first step is to contact the local Citizenship and Immigration Canada call center to obtain an adoption sponsorship package.

For both relative and non-relative adoptions, an information package is available from the Agency or District Office of Community Services nearest to you.

International adoption home studies are required in all international adoptions, whether with relatives or non-relatives. These home studies are completed by private practitioners on a fee-for-service basis paid by the adoptive parents. Applicants interested in applying to adopt internationally must submit the application to the local Agency. A list of private practitioners is then made available from Agencies or District Offices of the Department of Community Services.

To learn more about International Adoption, view the International Adoption fact sheet.
