Who May Adopt? - Special Needs Adoption
Mi'kmaq Adoption

Children who speak Mi'kmaq must be placed in an environment where the language is spoken and/or understood. Culturally enriched activities must be supported for the overall well-being of the child.

The greatest need for families is for children ages eleven to sixteen. Many Mi'kmaq children who need supportive families have spent most of their lives in one community. These children require sensitivity and understanding during the adjustment period to a new home, a new school or new community environments.

If you are 19 years of age or older, single or married status, and a resident of Nova Scotia, you may contact one of the Mi'kmaq Family and Children's Services in the province. For mainland Nova Scotia, contact Shubenacadie at 902-758-3553. For Cape Breton, contact Eskasoni at 902-379-2433.
