Parenting Journey
Parenting Journey is a home visitation program that provides support for families experiencing complex social, emotional, and familial challenges that may impact overall family functioning, parent-child relationships, and the well-being and development of children and youth.
The program recognizes that the well-being and development of children, youth and their families are influenced by environment, community and relationships with others.
Parenting Journey uses a holistic approach to strengthen relationships between child, parent, family and community. Programming is focused on:
- Child & youth development, safety & well-being
- Parenting support
- Family support
- Community connectedness, linkages and referrals
The program aims to achieve the following outcomes for children, youth and families:
- Hope and optimism about the future; positive self-identity
- Participation in setting relevant and personal goals
- Improved family relationships
- Knowledge of parenting and child and youth development
- Access to concrete supports in times of need
- Increased problem solving
- Involvement of families with community supports, services and activities
- Social and emotional competence of children/youth
- Positive nurturing and attachment relationships between children and parents/caregivers
- Supports and resources for healthy family functioning
- Positive parenting practices and parental resilience in times of stress and crisis
- Improved social connections and supports
How to access this program
Referrals to the Parenting Journey program can be made by families themselves (self-referrals) or by other service providers.
