Month-over-month (February 2024 vs. January 2024, seasonally adjusted turnover value)
In the European Union, retail sales index was down 0.3%. In the Euro Area, retail sales index decreased by 0.4% from the previous month.
Year-over-year (February 2024 vs. February 2023, seasonally adjusted turnover value)
In the European Union, on a year-over-year basis, retail sales were up 1.6%. In the Euro Area, retail sales were up 1.1% in February 2024.
Year-to-date (Jan-Feb 2024 vs. Jan-Feb 2023, seasonally adjusted turnover value)
In the European Union, retail sales were up 1.7%. In the Euro Area, retail sales were up 1.3%.
By member state, where data is available, the strongest growth in annual retail sales occurred in Romania, Croatia, Slovakia, and Luxembourg. Estonia, Finland, Beligum, and Lithuania were the only countries reporting a year-to-date decline in retail sales during January-February.

Note: Countries in the Euro Area are a subset of the countries in the European Union and contribute to the EU average. Individual countries reported with green bars are in the European Union but not in the Euro Area. With the addition of Croatia as of January 1, 2023, the Euro Area increased to 20 countries.
