EU AND EURO AREA TRADE BALANCE IN GOODS, MAY 2024

Month-over-month (May 2024 vs April 2024, seasonally adjusted)

In the 27 countries of the European Union, the balance of trade in goods surplus narrowed by €7.9 billion to €8.6 billion. Exports from the European Union were down 3.2% to €7.1 billion while imports grew by 0.4% to €807.4 million.

In the 20 countries of the Euro Area, the balance of trade in goods surplus narrowed €6.2 billion to €12.3 billion. Exports from the Euro Area declined by 2.6% to €237.4 billion while imports declined by 0.1% to €225.1 billion.

The European Union surplus in goods trade with the UK narrowed €915.6 million to €14.9 billion, the surplus in goods trade with Canada narrowed €274.6 million to €1.4 billion, and the surplus in goods trade with the US narrowed €2.6 billion to €14.1 billion.

Likewise, for the subset of European Union countries that use the Euro, there was a goods trade surplus with the UK (narrowed to €11.9 billion), and with Canada (narrowed to €1.0 billion) and with the US (narrowed to €12.6 billion).
