FARM INPUT PRICE INDEX, Q1 2024

Nova Scotia's farm input prices rose 3.7% in Q1, 2024 compared to the same quarter a year ago. Nationally, farm input prices grew 1.2%. Farm input prices have grown quicker in the Maritime provinces and Alberta, while they declined in Quebec and Ontario.

Although overall farm input inflation is faster in Nova Scotia than national, many components are growing faster nationally. There are notable price declines nationally for feed products. There was a significant price growth in crop production and cattle in Nova Scotia in the Q1 2024, however, nationally price growth for cattle and livestock purchases have outpaced price growth in Nova Scotia.
