US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, AUGUST 2024

Month over month (August 2024 vs July 2024), seasonally adjusted annual rate)

US construction spending decreased 0.1% to $2,131.9 billion.                                                                                                                                                    

  • Total residential construction decreased 0.3% to $911.4 billion.
  • Total non-residential construction spending increased 0.1% to $1,220.5 billion.
  • Private sector construction decreased 0.2% to $1,642.2 billion.
  • Public sector construction increased 0.3% to $489.8 billion.                                                           

Private residential construction decreased 0.3% to $899.9 billion, while private non-residential construction spending decreased 0.1% to $742.2 billion.

Public residential construction increased 1.6% to $11.5 billion, while public non-residential construction spending increased 0.3% to $478.3 billion.

 

Year-to-date (January-August 2024 vs January-August 2023)

US construction spending increased 7.5%. 

  • Total residential construction increased 6.6%.
  • Total non-residential construction spending increased 8.1%.                                                       
  • Private sector construction increased 6.5%.
  • Public sector construction increased 11.0%.
