October 25, 2024NEW HOUSING PRICE INDEX, SEPTEMBER 2024 Monthly (September 2024 vs August 2024)

Nova Scotia's new housing prices were up 0.2% in September over the previous month. Nationally new housing prices were unchanged from the previous month with gains in 4 provinces. Québec reported the largest gain in new housing prices while British Columbia reported the only decline. New housing prices were unchanged in 5 of 10 provinces.
Year-over-year (September 2024 vs September 2023)
Nova Scotia’s new housing prices increased by 0.3% from September 2023 to September 2024. Nationally, new housing prices were up 0.2% year-over-year.

New housing prices were up in 6 provinces, led by Alberta. Three provinces reported lower new housing prices compared with September 2023: Manitoba, Ontario and British Columbia. New housing prices were unchanged in Prince Edward Island.

Halifax new home prices increased 0.3% year-over-year in September 2024. Among Census Metropolitan Areas, the largest year-over-year gains were in Trois-Rivières and Calgary while Ottawa and Kitchner-Cambridge-Waterloo reported the sharpest year-over-year decline in new housing prices.

Year to date (January-September 2024 vs January-September 2023)
In the first nine months of 2024, Nova Scotia's new housing price index is 0.5% lower compared to the same period in 2023. Nationally, new housing prices were down 0.2% year-to-date with declines in 4 provinces, led by Ontario. Year-to-date new housing prices were up the most in Alberta. New housing prices were unchanged in Prince Edward Island.

Halifax new housing prices were down 0.5% in January-September 2024 compared to January-September 2023. The fastest growth among CMAs was in Calgary and the fastest decline was in Ottawa.
