US RETAIL SALES AND FOOD SERVICE RECEIPTS, OCTOBER 2024

Month over month (October 2024 vs September 2024, seasonally adjusted)

In the advance estimates of U.S retail sales and food service receipts, total sales increased 0.4% from September to October. Excluding food services receipts, retail trade increased 0.4% as well. Food service and drinking place receipts increased 0.7%.                       

Year-over-year (October 2024 vs October 2023, seasonally adjusted)

US retail trade and food services receipts increased 2.8% from October 2023 to October 2024. Retail trade increased 2.6% and food services and drinking places sales increased 4.3%.

Year-to-date (January-October 2024 vs January-October 2023)

Year-to-date sales were up in 7 of 12 retail categories. The largest decline (in percentage terms) was seen in furniture while the fastest gains were in non-store retailers and miscellaneous stores.
