EU AND EURO AREA UNEMPLOYMENT RATE, DECEMBER 2024

Eurostat has reported that the unemployment rate in the Euro Area increased 0.1 percentage points to 6.3% in December 2024. For the broader 27 countries of the entire European Union, the unemployment rate increased 0.1 percentage points to 5.9% in December 2024. 

In December, youth unemployment rates decreased to 15.0% from 15.2% in November in the European Union. In December, the Euro Area youth unemployment rates were down to 14.8% over the previous month's rate of 14.9%. 

The unemployment rate for females in the Euro Area was up 1.0 percentage points over the previous at 6.5% in December. Male unemployment rate was unchanged at 6.1%. The European Union unemployment rate for females was stable at 6.1% in December 2024. The unemployment rate for males was stable at  5.7% in the European Union compared to the previous month.

Among EU member state economies, the December unemployment rates were month  highest in Spain and Greece. Unemployment rate was lowest in Czechia.
