May 15, 2025US RETAIL SALES AND FOOD SERVICE RECEIPTS, APRIL 2025 Month-over-month (April vs March 2025, seasonally adjusted)
In the advance estimates of U.S retail sales and food service receipts, total sales grew 0.1% from March to April 2025. Excluding food services receipts, retail trade declined 0.1%. Food service and drinking place receipts grew 1.2%.
Year-over-year (April 2024 vs April 2025, seasonally adjusted)
US retail trade and food services receipts increased 5.2% from April 2024 to April 2025. Retail trade increased 4.7% and food services and drinking places sales increased 7.8%.
Year-to-date (January-April 2025 vs January-April 2024)
US retail sales were up 4.6% with gains in all categories except in sporting & recreation, gas stations, and electronics. The fastest gains (in percentage terms) were in health and personal care, non-store retailers and miscellaneous retailers. Food service receipts were up 5.5% year-to-date.
