June 05, 2025NOVA SCOTIA INTERNATIONAL GOODS EXPORTS, APRIL 2025 Year-over-year (April 2025 vs April 2024, domestic exports on a customs-basis, unadjusted)
Nova Scotia international goods exports were $513.6 million in April 2025, a decline of 5.2% compared to April 2024.

Canada's goods exports declined by 6.6% compared to April 2024. Out of ten provinces, eight reported year-over-year declines. Newfoundland and Labrador reported the strongest growth in exports, while Manitoba experienced the largest decline.

Year-to-date (January-April 2025 vs January-April 2024)
In the first four months of 2025 domestic exports grew 4.8% in Nova Scotia compared to the same period in 2024. Canada's exports increased 7.1% for January-April 2025, with Prince Edward Island reporting the largest gain. Manitoba reported the only decline.

Among broad product categories, Nova Scotia's domestic exports grew the most (in value terms) for motor vehicles/parts, chemicals/plastics/rubber products and electronics/electrical equipment. The largest declines were among shipments of metal ores/non-metallic minerals and metal/non-metallic mineral products, and consumer goods in January-April 2025 compared to January-April 2024.


Note: there was a substantial revision to Nova Scotia exports of energy products in 2024.
The US is by far Nova Scotia's largest destination for international goods exports. In the first four months of 2025, Nova Scotia exports to the United States were up 6.2% over same period in 2024, rising to $1,569.1 million.
China is Nova Scotia's second largest export destination and exports declined 14.2% to $202.9 million in January-April 2025.
Among the other significant export destinations, year-to-date exports were up sharply to Germany, Hong Kong, as well as Algeria and Turkey (though those exports reflect much smaller values). The largest declines in year-to-date exports were to South Korea, Japan, and Mexico.



Nova Scotia's exports to the US accounted for 71.4% of exports in January-April 2025. Massachusetts alone had a larger export value to China in the first four months of 2025. Exports were up for six of Nova Scotia's top ten US state destinations; exports were down to Massachusetts, Texas, Maine and Wisconsin. The largest dollar value increase was for Illinois and South Carolina.
