US CONSTRUCTION SPENDING, MAY 2025

Month over month (May 2025 vs April 2025), seasonally adjusted annual rate)

US construction spending decreased 0.3% to $2,138.2 billion.                                                                                                                                

  • Total residential construction declined 0.5% to $901.1 billion.
  • Total non-residential construction spending decreased 0.2% to $1,237.1 billion.
  • Private sector construction declined 0.5% to $1,626.6 billion.
  • Public sector construction increased 0.1% to $511.6 billion.                                                         

Private residential construction declined 0.5% to $888.9 billion, while private non-residential construction spending decreased 0.4% to $737.7 billion.

Public residential construction increased 1.4% to $12.2 billion, while public non-residential construction spending increased 0.03% to $499.4 billion.

Year-to-date (January-May 2025 vs January-May 2024)

US construction spending decreased 1.6%. 

  • Total residential construction decreased 2.3%.   
  • Total non-residential construction spending decreased 1.0%.   
  • Private sector construction decreased 3.0%.
  • Public sector construction increased 3.3%.
