July 02, 2025EU AND EURO AREA UNEMPLOYMENT RATE, MAY 2025 
Eurostat has reported that the unemployment rate in the Euro Area was up to 6.3% in May 2025. For the broader 27 countries of the entire European Union, the unemployment rate was unchanged at 5.9% in May 2025.
The Euro Area youth unemployment rate edged up to 14.4% in May from the previous month's rate of 14.3%. In the European Union, the youth unemployment rate edged up to 14.8% in May from 14.7% in April.
The unemployment rate for females in the Euro Area was stable compared to the previous month at 6.5% in May. The male unemployment rate edged up to 6.1% from 6.0% in April 2025. The European Union unemployment rate for females was stable at 6.1% in May 2025. The unemployment rate for males was stable at 5.7% in the European Union compared to the previous month.
Among EU member state economies, the May unemployment rates were highest in Spain, Sweden, and Finland. The unemployment rate was lowest in Malta and Czechia.
