US EMPLOYMENT, JUNE 2025

Monthly change (June 2025 vs May 2025, seasonally adjusted)

US non-farm payroll employment increased 147,000 in June 2025, rising to 159.7 million persons.

The increase of 147,000 in US nonfarm payroll employment was stronger than the growth of 144,000 reported for May 2025.                                                    

The US unemployment rate edged down to 4.1% in June 2025. The US unemployment rate has remained at or above 4% since May 2024.

The US participation rate decreased 0.1 percentage points to 62.3%. The US participation rate has stabilized below levels observed prior to the pandemic.

The US employment to population ratio was unchanged at 59.7% in June 2025. As with the participation rate, the US employment rate remains below pre-pandemic levels and has declined slightly since mid-2023.

Note: Canadian and US labour force statistics refer to different working-age cohorts.
