August 05, 2025NOVA SCOTIA INTERNATIONAL GOODS EXPORTS, JUNE 2025 Year-over-year (June 2025 vs June 2024, domestic exports on a customs-basis, unadjusted)
Nova Scotia international goods exports were $607.8 million in June 2025, a decline of 4.9% compared to June 2024.
Canada's goods exports declined by 6.9% compared to June 2024. Out of ten provinces, eight reported year-over-year declines. Ontario and Newfoundland and Labrador reported the only growth in exports. Alberta experienced the largest decline.
Year-to-date (January-June 2025 vs January-June 2024)
In the first six months of 2025 domestic exports grew 0.7% in Nova Scotia compared to the same period in 2024. Canada's exports increased 2.8% for January-June 2025, with six provinces reporting gains. Prince Edward Island reported the largest gain while New Brunswick reported the steepest decline.
Among broad product categories, Nova Scotia's year-to-date domestic exports grew the most (in value terms) for other transportation equipment, chemicals/plastics/rubber products and energy. The largest declines were among shipments of metal ores/non-metallic minerals and products and consumer goods.
The US is by far Nova Scotia's largest destination for international goods exports. In the first six months of 2025, Nova Scotia exports to the United States were up 1.8% over same period in 2024, rising to $2,409.7 million.
China is Nova Scotia's second largest export destination and exports declined 24.8% to $284.2 million in January-June 2025.
Among the other significant export destinations, year-to-date exports were up sharply to Germany and Italy. There were also notably large percentage gains in exports to Algeria and Türkiye, though these started from very low values in 2024. The largest declines in year-to-date exports were to China, Hong Kong, South Korea, and India.
Nova Scotia's exports to the US accounted for 70.8% of exports in January-June 2025. Massachusetts and Illinois each had a larger export value than Nova Scotia's shipments to China in the first six months of 2025. Exports were up for six of Nova Scotia's top ten US state destinations; exports were down to Texas, Maine, California and Wisconsin. The largest dollar value increases were for Illinois and South Carolina.
