Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Canada was up by 0.3% in June 2026, with gains in service industries offsetting declines in goods-producing industries.


Real GDP in Canada's goods-producing industries declined by 0.1% from May to June.

Real GDP in Canada's services-producing industries rose 0.4% from May to June.

In June 2026, 13 of Canada's key industry sub-sectors reported real GDP growth compared to the previous month.
Among goods-producing industries, growth in construction and manufacturing was offset by declines in mining/quarrying/oil/gas extraction, agriculture/forestry/fishing and utilities (a small industry). Manufacturing rose 0.6% in June for the third consecutive month, supported by durable goods manufacturing. Construction rose 0.3% for the third consecutive month led by gains in engineering and other construction activities and residential construction, driven by investments in alterations and improvements. The mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction sector contracted 0.6%, contributing the most to the decline in the goods producing industries.
Service-producing industries reported real GDP growth of 0.4% compared to June. Growth was reported in 11 subsectors, led by wholesale trade, retail trade and arts/recreation. Wholesale trade growth of 1.7% was drven by sales in machinery, equipment and supplies merchant wholesalers. Retail trade grew 1.4% with 7 of the subsectors growing. The public sector aggregate (comprising educational services, health care and social assistance, and public administration) expanded 0.3% in June. Company management reported the fastest decline, though this is a relatively small industry.

Year-to-date (January-June 2026 vs January-June 2025)
The Canadian economy was 1.1% larger in the first half of 2026 when compared to the same period of 2025.
Real GDP from goods-producing industries grew 0.4% as declines in manufacturing, construction, and utilities were offset by gains in agriculture/forestry/fishing, mining/oil/gas.
Real GDP from services-producing industries was up 1.4% with gains in most industries. The strongest gains were in information/culture, finance/insurance, and transportation/warehousing. Notable declines were reported in company management (though this is a small industry) and education.
