LABOUR FORCE SURVEY - MARCH 2021

MONTH OVER MONTH (Mar 2021 vs Feb 2021, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

• Labour force increased 0.9% (4,500) to 510,700
• Employment increased 0.3% (1,600) to 466,800
• Unemployment increased 7.1% (2,900) to 43,900
• Unemployment Rate increased 0.5 percentage points to 8.6%.

In Canada, 

• Labour force increased 0.8% (154,900) to 20,351,100
• Employment increased 1.6% (303,100) to 18,834,300
• Unemployment decreased 8.9% (148,400) to 1,516,700
• Unemployment Rate decreased 0.7 percentage points to 7.5%.

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

• Labour force increased 1.1% (2,900) to 264,100
• Employment increased 1.0% (2,400) to 242,500
• Unemployment increased 2.4% (500) to 21,600
• Unemployment Rate increased 0.1 percentage points to 8.2%

 

YEAR OVER YEAR (Mar 2021 vs Mar 2020, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

• Labour force increased 5.0% (24,200)
• Employment increased 5.9% (26,000)
• Unemployment decreased 4.1% (1,900)
• Unemployment Rate decreased 0.8 percentage points

In Canada,

• Labour force increased 3.4% (663,500)
• Employment increased 3.9% (700,500)
• Unemployment decreased 2.4% (37,100)
• Unemployment Rate decreased 0.4 percentage points

In Halifax, (3-month moving average)

• Labour force decreased 5.9% (14,700)
• Employment increased 4.6% (10,600)
• Unemployment increased 23.4% (4,100)
• Unemployment Rate increased 1.2 percentage points
