LABOUR FORCE SURVEY, APRIL 2024

                                                                           

MONTH OVER MONTH (April 2024 vs March 2024, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force decreased 1,100 (-0.2%) to 549,300
  • Employment decreased 900 (-0.2%) to 515,500
  • Unemployment decreased 300 (-0.9%) to 33,700
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.1 percentage points to 6.1%

In Canada

  • Labour force increased 107,500 (+0.5%) to 21,828,500
  • Employment increased 90,400 (+0.4%) to 20,491,100
  • Unemployment increased 17,100 (+1.3%) to 1,337,400
  • Unemployment Rate was unchanged at 6.1%

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 100 (+0.03%) to 293,400
  • Employment increased 400 (+0.1%) to 278,400
  • Unemployment decreased 400 (-2.6%) to 14,900
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.1 percentage points to 5.1%

 

YEAR OVER YEAR (April 2024 vs April 2023)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 19,700 (+3.7%)
  • Employment increased 19,800 (+4.0%)
  • Unemployment decreased 200 (-0.6%)
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.3 percentage points

In Canada

  • Labour force increased 632,500 (+3.0%)
  • Employment increased 376,600 (+1.9%)
  • Unemployment increased 256,000 (+23.7%)
  • Unemployment Rate increased 1.0 percentage points

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 16,700 (+6.0%)
  • Employment increased 15,100 (+5.7%)
  • Unemployment increased 1,500 (+11.2%)
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.3 percentage points
