MANUFACTURING SHIPMENTS, MARCH 2024

Monthly (seasonally adjusted, March 2024 vs February 2024)                                                                            

Nova Scotia's manufacturing shipments decreased 2.2% to $958 million. National shipments decreased 2.1% to $69.9 billion.

Manufacturing shipments were down in 8 of 10 provinces, Manitoba had the largest reported increase. Newoundland and Labrador had the largest reported decline.

Year-over-year (March 2024 vs March 2023)

Nova Scotia's manufacturing shipments decreased 1.5%. National shipments decreased 3.1%.

Manufacturing shipments were down in 8 out of 10 provinces. Manitoba reported the largest increase while Newfoundland and Labrdor posted the largest decline.

Year-to-date (seasonally adjusted, January-March 2024 vs January-March 2023)

Nova Scotia's manufacturing shipments increased 2.3%. National shipments decreased 3.1%.

Manufacturing shipments were down in 8 of 10 provinces. Newfoundland and Labrador reported the steepest decline. Prince Edward Island reported the largest increase.

Nova Scotia's durable goods shipments decreased 8.6%, while non-durable goods shipments increased 9.5%. In Halifax, durable goods shipments decreased 24.7%, while non-durables decreased 5.8%. Outside Halifax, durable goods shipments increased 12.6%, while non-durables increased 13.0%.

 

Trends 

Nova Scotia’s manufacturing shipments maintained an upward trend through 2023 and first months of 2024. Periodic spikes in Nova Scotia's shipments values are not uncommon. In Nova Scotia and nationally, manufacturing shipments have been relatively trending down since September 2023.
