May 23, 2024NEW HOUSING PRICE INDEX, APRIL 2024 Monthly (April 2024 vs March 2024)
In Nova Scotia, new housing prices grew 0.1% in April over the previous month, nationally they were up 0.2% from the previous month. Alberta reported the largest growth in new housing prices, while Manitoba reported the largest decline. Four provinces reported no change in new housing prices.
Year-over-year (April 2024 vs April 2023)
Nova Scotia’s new housing prices declined 0.9% from April 2023 to April 2024. Nationally, prices were down 0.1%.
New housing prices increased year-over-year in New Brunswick, Alberta and British Columbia. Among the six provinces reporting declining year-over-year new housing prices, Saskatchewan reported the largest decrease. New housing prices were unchanged in Prince Edward Island.
Halifax new home prices declined 0.9% year-over-year in April 2024. Among Census Metropolitan Areas, the largest year-over-year gains were in Quebec City, Calgary, and Vancouver while Ottawa reported the sharpest year-over-year decline in new housing prices.
Year to date (January-April 2024 vs January-April 2023)
In the first four months of 2024, Nova Scotia's new housing price index is 1.3% lower compared to the same period in 2023. Alberta reported the fastest growth while Saskatchewan reported the fastest decline.
Halifax new housing prices were down 1.3% in Jan-Apr 2024 compared to Jan-Apr 2023. The fastest growth among CMAs was in Calgary and Quebec City and the fastest decline was in Ottawa.
