LABOUR FORCE SURVEY, JUNE 2024

                                                                           

MONTH OVER MONTH (June 2024 vs May 2024, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force decreased 900 (-0.2%) to 549,000
  • Employment decreased 1,700 (-0.3%) to 512,900
  • Unemployment increased 900 (+2.6%) to 36,100
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.2 percentage points to 6.6%

In Canada

  • Labour force increased 40,400 (+0.2%) to 21,923,400
  • Employment decreased 1,400 (0.0%) to 20,516,400
  • Unemployment increased 42,000 (+3.1%) to 1,407,100
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.2 percentage points to 6.4%

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 1,000 (+0.3%) to 297,000
  • Employment increased 300 (+0.1%) to 279,900
  • Unemployment increased 800 (+4.9%) to 17,200
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.3 percentage points to 5.8%

 

YEAR OVER YEAR (June 2024 vs June 2023)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 18,200 (+3.4%)
  • Employment increased 17,100 (+3.4%)
  • Unemployment increased 1,100 (+3.1%)
  • Unemployment Rate was unchanged

In Canada

  • Labour force increased 588,500 (+2.8%)
  • Employment increased 343,400 (+1.7%)
  • Unemployment increased 245,200 (+21.1%)
  • Unemployment Rate increased 1.0 percentage points

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 19,700 (+7.1%)
  • Employment increased 18,500 (+7.1%)
  • Unemployment increased 1,400 (+8.9%)
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.1 percentage points
