LABOUR FORCE SURVEY, JULY 2024

                                                                           

MONTH OVER MONTH (July 2024 vs June 2024, seasonally adjusted)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force decreased 2,900 (-0.5%) to 546,100
  • Employment decreased 4,800 (-0.9%) to 508,100
  • Unemployment increased 1,900 (+5.3%) to 38,000
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.4 percentage points to 7.0%

In Canada

  • Labour force decreased 11,300 (-0.1%) to 21,912,100
  • Employment decreased 2,800 (0.0%) to 20,513,600
  • Unemployment decreased 8,600 (-0.6%) to 1,398,500
  • Unemployment Rate was unchanged at 6.4%

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force decreased 1,200 (-0.4%) to 295,800
  • Employment decreased 1,200 (-0.4%) to 278,700
  • Unemployment decreased 100 (-0.6%) to 17,100
  • Unemployment Rate was unchanged at 5.8%

 

YEAR OVER YEAR (July 2024 vs July 2023)

In Nova Scotia,

  • Labour force increased 8,400 (+1.6%)
  • Employment increased 12,000 (+2.4%)
  • Unemployment decreased 3,600 (-8.7%)
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.7 percentage points

In Canada

  • Labour force increased 572,200 (+2.7%)
  • Employment increased 345,500 (+1.7%)
  • Unemployment increased 226,700 (+19.3%)
  • Unemployment Rate increased 0.9 percentage points

In Halifax,  (3-month moving average) 

  • Labour force increased 17,200 (+6.2%)
  • Employment increased 18,800 (+7.2%)
  • Unemployment decreased 1,600 (-8.6%)
  • Unemployment Rate decreased 0.9 percentage points
