EURO AREA CURRENT ACCOUNT, JULY 2024

Month over month (July 2024 vs June 2024, seasonally adjusted)

The European Central Bank reported today that the Euro Area:

  • Current account surplus narrowed by €11.0 billion to €39.6 billion
  • Goods trade surplus narrowed by €3.4 billion to €35.2 billion
  • Services trade surplus widened by €6.9 billion to €18.6 billion
  • Primary income balance declined by €15.1 billion to a deficit of €0.7 billion
  • Secondary income deficit narrowed by €0.7 billion to €13.5 billion

Compared with June 2024 the Euro Area's exports of goods decreased by 3.5% to €238.5 billion in July 2024. Imports of goods decreased 2.5% to €203.4 billion.   

Exports of services from the Euro Area increased by 4.7% to €126.5 billion while imports of services to the Euro Area decreased 1.1% to €107.8 billion in July 2024.  

Primary income receipts for the Euro Area increased by 6.2% to €113.5 billion while payments rose by 23.5% to €114.2 billion in July 2024. 

Secondary income receipts in the Euro Area edged up by 0.1% to €15.3 billion while secondary income payments from the Euro Area decreased by 2.2% to €28.8 billion.
