Nova Scotia food services and drinking places receipts increased 2.1% to $192.9 million. Canada's food services and drinking places receipts increased by 0.2% to $8.3 billion. Across Canada, seven provinces reported higher receipts for food services and drinking places, led by New Brunswick. Manitoba reported the largest decline.
Year-over-year (January 2025 vs January 2024)
Nova Scotia food services and drinking places receipts increased 4.1% year-over-year. Canada's food services and drinking places receipts increased 5.6%. There were year-over-year gains in all provinces led by Québec, New Brunswick and British Columbia. Manitoba reported the slowest growth.

Nova Scotia's year-over-year gains in food service receipts were distributed across all categories: limited service eating places, full-service restaurants, specialty food services (such as mobile and catering) and drinking places. In percentage terms, full-service restaurants reported the fastest year-over-year gains in receipts.


Trends
Nova Scotia's food service receipts exhibit more volatility than national food service receipts, but in recent months Nova Scotia's receipts have grown faster than the national trend.
