EU AND EURO AREA TRADE BALANCE IN GOODS, AUGUST 2025

Month-over-month (August 2025 vs July 2025, seasonally adjusted)

In the 27 countries of the European Union, the trade surplus in goods widened by €1.8 billion to €6.1 billion. Exports from the European Union were down 1.2% to €210.3 billion while imports were down by 2.1% to €204.2 billion.                                                                                                                 

In the 20 countries of the Euro Area, the surplus in goods trade widened by €3.7 billion to €9.7 billion. Exports from the Euro Area edged down 0.8% to €235.8 billion while imports were down by 2.4% to €226.2 billion.

European Union trade in goods with Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom

• the European Union's surplus in goods trade with Canada widened by €147.2 million to €1.7 billion.
• the European Union's surplus in goods trade with the US narrowed by €1.3 billion to €9.2 billion. 
• the European Union surplus in goods trade with the UK narrowed by €216.6 million to €15.4 billion. 

Euro Area Trade in goods with Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom

For the subset of European Union countries that use the Euro

• the Euro Area surplus in goods trade with Canada widened by €304.0 million to €1.3 billion.
• the Euro Area surplus in goods trade with the US narrowed by €639.6 million to €8.1 billion. 
• the Euro Area surplus in goods trade with the UK narrowed by €223.3 million to €12.6 billion.
