December 16, 2025US RETAIL SALES AND FOOD SERVICE RECEIPTS, OCTOBER 2025 Month-over-month (October vs September 2025, seasonally adjusted)

In the advance estimates of U.S retail sales and food service receipts, total sales increased 0.03% from the previous month. Excluding food services receipts, retail trade increased 0.1%. Food service and drinking places receipts decreased 0.4%.
Year-over-year (October 2025 vs October 2024, seasonally adjusted)
US retail trade and food services receipts increased 3.5% from the same period last year. Retail trade increased 3.4% and food services and drinking places sales increased 4.1%.

Year-to-date (January-October 2025 vs January-October 2024)
In the first ten months of 2025, retail trade and food services receipts were up 4.3% compared to the same period last year. US retail sales were up 4.1% with gains in all categories except in building material and gas stations. The fastest gains (in percentage terms) were in miscellaneous, non-store retailers and health/personal care. Food service receipts were up 5.7% year-to-date.
